24 November is National Fairy Bread Day
A bright and cheerful tribute to one of Australia’s most iconic childhood foods. Generations of Aussie kids have enjoyed fairy bread as a colourful party treat or a quick after-school snack.
As simple as buttering a piece of white bread and adding lots and lots of hundreds and thousands.
Fairy Bread Day was founded in 2014 by Adam Schell when he was eating fairy bread and joked
“There should be a day to celebrate this!”
In 2020, Adam handed over the reins to Dollar Sweets (a family-owned Australian confectionery business) to make Fairy Bread Day national. As long-time supporters, Dollar Sweets took over organising and promoting the event, and has guided its growth into a national fundraising occasion.
Since 2020, a core part of Fairy Bread Day has been its support of Australian charities, initially in conjunction with ReachOut, Australia’s leading online mental health service. Over a three-year period, over $114,000 was raised to help support Australia’s youth.
In 2023, a new partnership was formed with The Pyjama Foundation, an organisation assisting children in foster care. In just two years, over $70,000 has been raised for this cause. Funds are used to implement key programs where children are matched to trained volunteer mentors who provide consistent one-on-one time, supporting learning, life-skills, emotional support and relationship building.
Help celebrate the day by spreading a little colour and donating to a very worth cause.
