Bacchus Marsh 1000 Steps INTB (13)

The Bacchus Marsh 1000+ Steps is a purpose-built trail of man-made steps climbing Bald Hills, just outside Bacchus Marsh. Starting at Ramsay Crescent in a residential area of Darley, the route extends for approximately 1.9 kilometres and rises around 300 metres in elevation.

We tackled this challenge a few days ago, and our calf muscles are still complaining. Thankfully, the regular rest stops, clear step markers, and a conveniently placed water fountain partway up the climb made the challenge achievable.  In total, we climbed 1,139 steps to reach the summit.

The reward at the top is the expansive view across the Moorabool landscape.  The walk back down really was quite enjoyable with the view in sight during the descent. We had a head wind climbing down, but it was cool and refreshing.

The reward at the top is an expansive view across the Moorabool landscape. The walk back down was really enjoyable, with the scenery in sight for much of the descent. Even with a headwind on the way down, the trek much easier, and the breeze provided a cool and refreshing relief.

At the top, Telford Park Reserve continues the experience with the Summit All Abilities Sculpture Trail. This section offers smoother paths and gentle gradients, making it accessible to a wider range of visitors. We didn’t continue on this part — reaching the top of the steps felt like a victory in itself.  We will return one day and park the car at the top so that we can enjoy the Sculpture Trail feeling refreshed.

This is the kind of challenge that’s less about speed and more about persistence. One step at a time, a few deep breaths at each rest stop, and a genuine sense of accomplishment at the end.

To support the local economy, then we visited the shopping centre in Bacchus Marsh and purchased some food.
