INTB Palaeontology Instructions 2025

Because dinosaurs are fun

Palaeontology is the study of fossils — the preserved remains or traces of plants and animals that lived long ago. Fossils give us clues about what the Earth looked like millions of years ago and help scientists understand how life on our planet has changed over time. It also includes the study of ancient life including single cells, prehistoric plants, mammals, fish and of course dinosaur fossils. Even footprints and scats in rocks give us clues as to what once lived on earth,  what they ate, how they evolved and died.  The fossils that we find are evidence of how life has changed over time and gives us an insight to what our planet was like so long ago. This badge encourages curiosity, investigation and hands-on discovery. Participants can explore fossils, learn about prehistoric creatures, investigate geological time, and discover how scientists uncover the secrets of the past. Activities can include research, creative projects, games, experiments and outdoor exploration. Whether you are fascinated by dinosaurs, ancient oceans, or the clues hidden in rocks and fossils, there are plenty of ways to dig into the subject. Perfect for curious minds who enjoy learning about the history of life on Earth.
